Entertainment: Thelma's Revenge, PSI Highlights, The Hum, and Meg Hansen Interview

“Old age ain’t no place for sissies” – Bette Davis

It may take a decade – or several – but when you eventually realize the ladder of success has a flip top – you can hop off and have a whole lot more fun exploring the spooky fringe.

'Thelma' strikes back

Things no one tells you about getting older: They’re still not telling.

According to my mom: NO ONE ANSWERS the OVER 60 Free Legal Help for Seniors Hotline. It is a perpetual time suck that sends you from one recorded line to the next. She called (severely overheated) to inform me of that travesty shortly before I was due at my health appointment [perfectly timed for my blood pressure update].

After a few quick questions and a google search, I redirected her to the main/online page/website for that department and left for my appointment.

She cooled down, found the site, filled out a form and has been advised that she is on a list and someone will call in 3 to 5 days. The clock is ticking… along with the fuse. [3 to 5 days turned into weeks.]

This is why I prefer dealing with the endless parade of non-physical, unexplained enigmas [ETs, Ghosts, Fairies, Sasquatch, etc.], and all things liberated from the inane, bureaucratic fixated wormhole commonly referred to as ‘reality’…

For Mom - and all elders trying to adjust to an increasingly fickle social landscape - 'Thelma' is based on the real-life experience of writer-director Josh Margolin's grandmother: Trailer Link.

In the film, the 93-year-old Thelma (June Squibb) gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, then sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her.

The film world premiered to critical acclaim at Sundance, where Magnolia landed rights in a competitive situation. Details. Source. June 2024 release date.

Mystery unsolved: The Hum

Can you hear the Hum? This video explores the mystery. YouTube.

In the comments: “I lived in Taos for many years, and I have personally heard the hum. For me, the sound is louder on the other side of town toward the mountains, and not out by Two Peaks and the Gorge Bridge. I talked to an old-time local about it, and he told me there is a “hollow” mountain in Taos Canyon, containing a secret military installation. This is consistent with another incident that happened to me in the canyon, so this is plausible. Also.. For a brief time during a return to Taos, I lived in the same hotel you stayed at for about 6 months. It looks like the place has experienced a major renovation since then, haha. Great video!”

Our interview is available on YouTube and on the various podcast sites. We covered a variety of topics and the interview is longer than I usually post but I didn’t want to cut it short. She talks about losing everything in the Woolsey Fire and her process of recovering from PTSD.

Artist, author, illustrator, former teacher, Reiki Master and intuitive reader. I liked her book the minute it opened to page 105, a UFOMaking Marks

You don't have to be an artist to connect with Elaine Clayton's work. The beauty of this process is that it marries the abstract to link insight and image.

Elaine uses her original method of stream drawing to help clients discover their own inner knowing and then to encourage each to explore his or her own creative, intuitive vibe using the process.

I love her work. This is the first time I have seen anything like it and it validated my passion for what I have always called doodles. I use them to explore, to express, to play and escape. Doodles help me focus and at the same time relax. I consider them as art, but they are not art by anyone else's definition. As such, they have remained a covert pleasure.

So, here is a process that celebrates lines, squiggles, circles, dots, quirky and sometimes meandering designs. Maybe I am not alone.

Wendy's Stream Drawing Sample, 2/24
Try your own stream drawing with 8x10 scrap paper or something like that. Relax, loosen up.

Don't worry about making it look like anything specific. Pick an emotion, a memory or a wish. Put the pencil, crayon, writing utensil to the paper and flow....

Check in with Elaine for inspiration. What is Stream Drawing?

That's my demo. She interprets or comments only if invited. I invited. And she explained more about how she uses the technique and how to read the image or interpret what might be suggested in the design.

Fascinating and an excellent tool for accessing awareness into the inner narrative and core issues and how that might  (to the artist - not the interpreter) be observable when delivered within the energy flow of the lines/designs in a creative work!

She suggests using the non-dominant hand. I think I goofed on that. I can't remember. Basically, the goal is to just draw and see what happens. Every time I look at the image, I notice something different. That's why I like it. But that's what I was so unsure about. My doodles don't have a specific form. They are me playing in non-form. The message is between the lines.

Elaine's method of stream drawing as a divination tool is inspired and impressive. She shares several examples in the book. Making Marks provides an excellent starting point for anyone who is curious and would like to enhance their own intuitive abilities through creative play that is the process of stream drawing. Thank you, Elaine!

11/13/17 - Curtis Rivers - The Fearless Path, What a Movie Stuntman's Spiritual Awakening Can Teach You about Success - Wendy's Coffeehouse

When he was 8 years old, Curtis Rivers knew he wanted to be a Stuntman. He also knew there was no direct route to that outcome. Rather than get discouraged, he studied the list of requirements and stayed focused. (Relentlessly focused.)

One by one, the list got smaller. Obsession was his friend. Each challenge and hurdle was simply another check on the requirement chart. Long story short, surrounding himself with motivating posters, images and role models, persistence and dedication to the job at hand, whatever that might be, Curtis achieved his goal, with clout: Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall of Fame, and Guinness World Record holder. Records.

In this interview, we don't explore the risk element, we accept that as inherent in the position. View the stunt library pics here: Rivers Edge Stunts
Curtis Rivers - The Fearless Path

Curtis Rivers, The Fearless Path
We cover the outline for the book - fictional encounter with a Master who guides and instructs as the student faces various challenges while climbing a mountain. Random notes:

- 28 days to set a new behavior
- 7 Pillars
- The importance of proper breathing

The messages address a spiritual awakening and the resulting awareness. Given the source is Curtis and a compilation of personal life mentors and teachings - the reinforcement might be that the real person telling the story has managed for two decades to put himself in situations that required the title "Stuntman" and he has yet to break a bone. I lost on that count at age 14.

No broken bones in two decades of stunt work is also a testament to the fact that risk doesn't imply lack of regard for safety. At the end of the day, a clean stunt record is a win/win for the entire project.

I am happy to not know what butterflies feel like at 15 thousand feet. However, I trust, if I had to find out, Curtis would be my first call.
