Lasting impression - Green Glow ambiance (former site of funeral home)

“Don't matter if you believe in them or not. If they're there, they're there,' Mrs. Phipps said.” - Joan Lowery Nixon, The Haunting

Dining with Ghosts in Weston, Missouri.

The view when the Missouri River port
was at the bottom of Main Street in Weston, Missouri.

The view!

First time - after 9 or so years of coming to this event - we could see the Missouri River from the top of the hill on Main Street.

Flooding earlier in the year and a recent levee failure have given views that are a reminder [almost] of what it used to look like before the channel changed in 1881. KC Star.

At one time, the Missouri River was at the bottom of the hill where Jeff's Architectural Salvage and Weston Burley House are now located.

Timing this year also offered a chance to see the Orionids. While on the ghost walk, standing outside The Hatchery and listening to the background, a spectacular meteor flashed across the sky.

There are some changes this year. A few new sites have been added and some of the regular stops are off the tour - but still mentioned. Stories include a few recent events.

Ghost Walk highlights: Haunted Nicolette.

Ice Maiden. Nicolette is
a haunted statue.

At one time she had a companion male statue.

No longer given a window space - because of her track record.
(And the front windows have recently been replaced.)

The first time Nicolette had a window space, the window fogged with condensation on the glass. Thinking there must be another explanation, she got a second chance in that window space.

They opened the shop the next day, she and the window were covered in a thin coating of ice.

Since windows are not her thing, we peered at her through the door as she stood in her temporary - middle of the floor - spot.

Friday night [10/18] Ghost Walk Anomaly. Weather for the evening was warm and dry. Temps stayed in the 60's. No fog or mist. Note the green tint in the second image. The first image was taken the following night to see if there was a similar effect.

After studying the images, it would seem the bright white lantern threw the camera lighting off. Best unintended special effect of the night - underscoring the eerie feeling in the space.

This image was taken the following night for comparison.
No green. Still spooky.

True Ghost story and a bit of Weston History: A long time resident of one of the historic homes shared her story at the dinner. She said she almost moved out at first. Having just had a new baby, she was with the child in an upstairs bedroom working (Seamstress) when a woman dressed in period clothing appeared - standing in the doorway - looking directly at her. The woman was holding a baby and smiling at her. Then she vanished.

Scared to death, the woman said she grabbed her child, ran downstairs and called her husband telling him they had to move out immediately because the house was haunted.

Her husband asked if the ghost had tried to harm her. She said it hadn't and, because of the smile, it actually seemed that the ghost might be friendly and meant no harm. Two days later, a Realtor showed up with the missing abstract for the home, leather bound and about 5 inches thick.

Included in that abstract is the story of the young woman and history of the other residents of the home. The smiling young woman had died in childbirth along with her baby.

Spooky Tales and Haunted Weston Ghost High Jinx

What's happening now is what happened before, and often what's going to happen again sometime or other. - Orson Welles, Mr. Arkadin.

OddsnEnds -
  • Spooky stories from Reddit users demonstrate a plethora of paranormal: Ghosts, precognition prompts, unexplained voices, anonymous phone calls originating from numbers that don't exist. Weird but true. (Naturally, I can't write about this without the DVD player wigging out. Stuck when it doesn't usually have issues.) Reddit
  • Ghostbuster's wish granted. Sacramento rocks this 5-year-old's dream. CNN.
  • Lavender for calming. The scent works on mice. UPI.

Ghost Tales of Weston - is sold out. At least one group of attendees on the ghost tour had an interesting encounter last weekend at the Benner House. Formerly a B&B, now an overflow site for the Saint George Hotel.

As the tour party gathered, the presenter at the site said an odd cloud of fog emerged from the house and wafted above them. The fog was followed by an excited teen who ran out of the house and told everyone he had heard voices and footsteps. Staying behind while others in his group had gone out, he was alone.

Lively paranormal activity continues at the Weston Bend Candle Company. (A Paranormal Research group was visiting Saturday night.)

Last February, on a very slow day, the owner thought he heard someone at the door. No living being was seen entering but a calling card appeared on the floor inside a space occupied by a display rack that would have been impossible to walk through. Water droplets formed the shape of a boot print, as if snow had been tracked in and traces were left melting on the floor. He showed me the photo he took. Definitely a footprint.
Nicolette is featured on the Weston Ghost Tour.

No doubt you've heard of haunted objects. Weston is home to a statue/doll who can no longer occupy the front window because she tends to ice up the glass. (sold to private owner)

Verna K. writes about Nicolette in her book Ghost Tales of Weston. Page 36, Adams Mayfair.

A timely highlight, reported last weekend and posted October 20th, by a Main Street Galleria customer to Haunted Places.

She took a picture of The Saint George Hotel having no idea it was haunted. Check out the very curious image in that window on the second floor.

And the post just previous is by Chris Williams who told me about his unnerving experience at The Saint George when he attended the Ghost Tales event last year (2017). I am glad he posted it.

Numerous homes and businesses are known to be haunted in Weston. Very few are open to the public in general and some that are don't mention their ghosts..

Ghost Tales of Weston, Page 83. The Price-Loyles House, built in 1857, is absent from the Ghost Tour but will be featured on the December Candlelight Homes Tour.

Actively haunted, the owners who bought and restored this historic home confess they altered their plans to live in the home full time due to the fact they are uncomfortable being in the house alone at night.

Photo evidence hints at the paranormal presence in their residence. The focus is a mirror in the bedroom. Other than furniture, the room was empty. However, a couple - smartly dressed in period clothes - appears clearly visible in the reflection.
