Minus exceptions (ex: Soccer Stadium, 1954 BBC , Phoenix Lights, 1997 KTAR ), UFO encounters have been singular events with one witness or witnesses who opted to stay silent to avoid ridicule. Ex:  Pascagoula . Media coverage has been sparse. In addition to being difficult to vet, showing an interest in the subject matter was risky. Working in the media for a couple of decades, I can attest to that. In radio, local daytime talker Mike Murphy was curious about UFOs. Art Bell was the 'go to' for UFO talk on overnights.
