Free State Horror Stories 2022 visited Gettysburg and Black Jack Battlefield: Link. No deaths were recorded at this site but the conflict is a flash point for the Civil War. And there are resident ghosts. BlackJackBattlefield.org.
I was invited to offer my impression of this site and I understood the concern was about the ghosts but there is so much more going on that it was actually overwhelming to get information coming in from so many sources. I had to block some of it and just allow what seemed to be the most important content to filter through.
Recap of my visit to Black Jack Battlefield (August, 2022). Walking up to the house (Added afterward, not there during the time of the conflict.), there are sensations and images of movement through the nearby stream and intense activity in the woods. A call back - as I was later informed - to the activities surrounding that skirmish. I was given (intuitive/guides) information that attackers used the stream for cover. My initial insight also included wagons going across and through the water.
I also pay attention to the setting, nature and weather activity present at the time of my visit. It had rained throughout the day. Rain stopped and the scene was lush as we [Andy and I] arrived. The most important - to me - element was the presence of coyotes. One sang as we walked to the house and then it was quiet.
As we wrapped my segment and I was leaving, the coyote(s) sang again. The purpose in calling attention to this space - according to the ghosts - is to issue a warning and a plea - do not let history repeat.
The dead (and all those traumatized and attached to the deceased) from previous battles haunt the battlefield spaces, including land and towns, where they remain caught up. They remain as a reminder/cautionary tale - to where present day futures lead - until we abandon the mindsets that perpetuate conflict.
There are multiple posts on this topic covered on my other blog. Reading the Black Jack Battlefield site was about more than the Civil War connection. That land carries residue/imprints from multiple timelines. I had to revisit various historical documents and websites to find out what was so important and why they were linked.
Along with the Civil War presence - there are [bloody] imprints from Santa Fe Trail crossings and Native American (Indigenous tribes) resettlement. There is nothing romantic or enchanting about these timelines. History and the activities of those who were trying to stake a claim to the land was brutal. Part 1 Link. Part 2 and Part 3.
